Turkey’s Interior Minister Muammer Guler has broken his silence regarding the arrest of his son, Baris Guler, over allegations of corruption and bribery.
Baris Guler was among dozens of others arrested on December 17, in an anti-graft operation conducted by police across Istanbul.
In a raid that targeted Baris Guler’s home address, it was claimed that $1.2 million in cash was found. His father, Muammer Guler, told Posta Gazetesi that the money came from a villa his son had sold in Istanbul’s Bahcesehir district.
In saying that all of the necessary documents had been submitted, he added that in the process of the sale an unexpected problem was encountered regarding the home’s mortgage, and for this reason it was not possible to present the bank any proof of the money’s origin.
Guler said that the cash was being stored at his son’s address until the problem with the mortgage was solved.Last Mod: 24 Aralık 2013, 12:14
