Turkish minister meets Google's vice president

Turkish Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Nihat Ergun met with Vinton Gray Cerf, Vice President and chief internet evangelist for Google on Wednesday.

Ergun tried Google Glass, named as "Magic Glass" by Google, and invited Google to the 'IT Valley' which will be established in Gebze district in Turkey's northwestern province of Kocaeli.

The meeting was held at the minister's office and Ergun informed Cerf about support for research and development in Turkey.

Ergun stated the ministry made great efforts to increase their funding of research in Turkey, adding that Turkey provided facilities for entrepreneurs who deal with technological pursuits.

Cerf, on the other hand, said that basic sciences and research were supported at the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the US, expressing that cooperation in the biotechnological domain could be conducted between the NSF and TUBITAK, the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey.
