Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Emrullah Isler has told reporters that the Turkish parliament is planning to announce a statement regarding the death sentence handed down to 529 anti-coup protesters in Egypt.
Noting that Turkey has been the only country to firmly stand against the military coup that took place in Egypt on July 3 last year, ousting the country's first democratically elected leader Mohamed Morsi just one year after he was voted in office, he said that Turkey condemned that sentence that was given to all 529 defendants within just half an hour.
Turkey has experience four military coups within its nine decades as a republic, finally relieved itself from the intimidation of its own military after a crackdown on the shadowy 'deep-state' organization Ergenekon, which is accused of planning the fifth coup on Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling AK Party government.
For this reason, as a country that has overcome this intimidation, Deputy PM Isler called on the parliament to put forward a strong voice of condemnation of the verdict, saying doing so would be a source of honor and pride for Turkey.Last Mod: 09 Nisan 2014, 17:37
