A Turkish scientist developed a method calculating the volume of brain in a three dimensional computerized medium.
Associate Professor Niyazi Acer of Erciyes University developed a method calculating the volume of brain in a three dimensional computerized medium making it easier for the diagnosis of illnesses such as alzheimer, dementia and schizophrenia.
Acer told Anadolu Agency that the surface area and volume of the brain changed with many neurologic and psychiatric illnesses.
Emphasizing that calculating the surface area and volume of the brain carried great importance in many illnesses, Acer said, "We used to use a method named "steorology." We automatized this method to allow the examination of the way in a standardized manner. We transfer the MR and cat scan (CT) images to the computer, place grid dots, count them and calculate the volume and surface area of the brain. We can also easily calculate the volume of a tumor in the brain, by using the same method."
Acer also stated that they were also working on developing the method to enable counting the number of cells.Last Mod: 25 Nisan 2013, 17:16
