Turkish scientist gets English best nature award

Turkish scientist and instructor at Utah University Dr. Sekercioglu received the Whitley Gold Award which is accepted as the most prestigious environment award of England.      

The award was given to Sekercioglu by Princess Anne, daughter of English Queen Elizabeth II.      

Sekercioglu, also the president of North Nature Foundation, was chosen among 167 wildlife conservators supported by Whitley Foundation. He was given the award as he created the first wildlife passageway.      

"I am proud of having the chance to make Turkey the only country that had Whitley Gold Award for the second time," Dr. Sekercioglu said.      

He added he did his best to explore and protect Turkish wildlife together with his foundation.      

Turkey had been given the first Whitley Gold Award in 2008 for the projects of protecting Kars-Kuyucuk Lake.
