With the sixth straight win in the 2010 World Basketball Championship on Sunday, the Turkish national team achieved their best performance ever so far in a European or world championship.
The 95-77 win over the French rivals in yesterday's game in the round of last 16 in Istanbul, Turkey's "Twelve Giant Men" made a powerful headway to the quarter finals, where they are set to face Slovenia on Wednesday.
The Turkish team toppled rivals in Group C fairly easily except for a narrow 79-77 win against Puerto Rico.
The team's quarter final contenders Slovenia upset the Turkish squad 69-67 in last year's European Championship.
This is the third time in a row that Turkey plays in world championships since 2002, when the team ranked 9th back then.
In 2006, Turks advanced to the quarter finals for the first time in their history following a win against Slovenia.
