Derya Sert who became the first woman in the world to receive a donor womb and get pregnant has lost her baby.
The eight weeks pregnancy of Sert has ended after doctors have monitored no fetal heartbeat, according to the written statement by Akdeniz University Hospital.
Dr. Ömer Özkan, a professor from the Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Antalya University's Faculty of Medicine also said that the patient’s in a good health condition in general, resting at home. He also added that she will start IVF fertility treatment again under favorable conditions.
Described as “medical miracle”, the young Turkish woman, 22, who was born without a womb, received the organ from a cadaver in August 2011 at Akdeniz University Hospital in Antalya.
