A group of masked assailants suspected of being Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) sympathizers threw Molotov cocktails on a municipality bus and a private bus on Friday afternoon in İstanbul's Okmeydanı district.
Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene of the attack to extinguish the flames. Later, police units dispersed the violent group from the area.
Turkish police are on high alert as Feb. 15 is the 14th anniversary of the capture of the leader of the PKK, Abdullah Öcalan, and his being brought back to Turkey from hiding in Kenya.
Every year on the anniversary of Öcalan's capture, PKK sympathizers organize illegal demonstrations around Turkey during which they frequently attack civilians, business premises and security forces.
