Two new border gates on Turkish-Iraqi border

Turkish Trade Minister Hayati Yazici has said that the Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iraqi Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani have agreed to open two new border gates on Turkish-Iraqi border.

Turkish Minister of Customs and Trade Hayati Yazici said Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Massoud Barzani, head of autonomous Kurdish government in northern Iraq, agreed to open two new border gates on Turkish-Iraqi border, during their meeting in Turkey's southeastern city of Diyarbakir last week.

In a written statement on Thursday Yazici said Aktepe and Ovakoy border gates would be opened in addition to existing Habur border gate as soon as possible.

Aktepe and Ovakoy border gates will be opened immediately to overcome the heavy traffic on Habur border gate which remains insufficient to support the commerce between the two countries, worths annually 12 billion USD, he said.
