United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has signed the agreement about the movement of its Regional Center of Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States into Istanbul.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Chairman of UNDP Helen Clark have signed the agreement in a ceremony at Turkish Center in New York within the scope of 68th General Assembly of UN, said Turkish Foreign Ministry.

Minister of Development Cevdet Yilmaz of Turkey also attended the ceremony, according to the statement.

Noting that UNDP took decision of movement regarding Istanbul's central location in the region, strategical cooperation with Turkey and Turkey's active role in international arena, the statement also said one of the final steps of the movement was achieved with the signing of the agreement.

UNDP will sustain its activities of Regional Center of Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States in Istanbul from now on, according to the statement.

Turkish Development Minister Cevdet Yilmaz stated that Turkey has become a significant center for regional and international activities.

Many international organizations move their offices to Istanbul or Ankara, Yilmaz stated speaking in the meeting titled “Sustainable Development and Post 2015 Development Agenda” within the scope of 68th UN General Assembly meetings.

Speaking at the meeting, Yilmaz said that Post 2015 Development Agenda meeting will be held in cooperation of UN Development Program (UNDP) and UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) on 6-8 November and Europe-Central Asia Regional Council Meeting will be held in Istanbul.

Stating that UNDP Europe Regional Office will be moved to Istanbul, Minister Cevdet Yilmaz underlined that Turkey has become a significant center for regional and international activities. "Many international organizations move their offices to Istanbul or Ankara".

Minister Yilmaz left for Istanbul after completing his contacts within the scope of 68th UN General Assembly.
