After losing out to Milan for the 2015 bid, Izmir hopes to win the vote this time to host the World Fair.

Twenty Turkish ambassadors will be lobbying hard to get EXPO 2020 for Izmir in the nine days before the vote in Paris, say according to Izmir 2020 campaign organisers.

Turkey’s energy minister, Taner Yildiz is holding a reception on Monday for EXPO 2020 nomination of Izmir, whose theme is 'health for everybody'. Izmir is competing with Yekaterinburg of Russia, Sao Paulo of Brazil and UAE’s Dubai to host the event. Turkey will hold another reception right before the ballot, on 26 November in Paris Embassy of Turkey.

EXPO, also known as world’s fair, gathers people across the world to exhibit ideas and innovations for a better future with a selected theme in each exhibition being organized every 5 years for 6 months, Turkey will focus on “health” for EXPO 2020.

The next one, EXPO 2015, will be in Milan, as EXPO 2010 was in Shanghai with an attendance of 73 million.

Izmir was a candidate for 2015 too, and lost at the final voting.
