Saudi Arabia on Tuesday reported three more deaths from the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), commonly known as coronavirus.
In a statement, the Health Ministry said three men from the capital Riyadh had died of the virus.
It also reported six new infections, bringing to 345 the total number of registered cases since MERS struck the kingdom in September 2012.
In April alone, Saudi Arabia detected 183 coronavirus infections.
The virus, which can cause fever and pneumonia, has killed 48 people in Saudi Arabia this year, according to a tally compiled by Anadolu Agency.
Along with Saudi Arabia, the virus has been reported in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Jordan and Oman.
MERS, for which no known cure is available, destroys the lungs and kidneys.
It is presumed that long-term physical contact can lead to infection.Last Mod: 30 Nisan 2014, 10:49
