Ten civilians were killed and 25 others were injured after the Iraqi army targeted a market and a residential area in the ISIL-controlled city of Fallujah in Anbar province, an Iraqi security official told Anadolu Agency.

“Random airstrikes and artillery shelling by the [Iraqi] army targeted al-Fallujah Market and Nezal district in the downtown area,” Ragee Barakat, a member of Anbar’s security committee, said. “The planes randomly attacked [the people of Fallujah] instead of dropping food supplies to save them.”

Fallujah was the first Iraqi city to be captured by the Daesh terrorist group in 2014.

Meanwhile, four explosions rocked Baghdad on Friday, leaving six people dead and another 27 injured, according to a senior Iraqi interior ministry source.

The source told Anadolu Agency that the attacks hit al-Bayaa, Nafaw al-Shorta, al-Doura and al-Taramya districts.

Iraq has groaned under deteriorating security since 2014, when ISIL overran the northern city of Mosul – the country’s second largest city – and declared a self-styled "caliphate" in parts of Iraq and Syria.
