A series of bombings that hit Iraqi capital Baghdad and Baqubah on Wednesday has left at least 42 people dead and 83 injured, a security source said.
A total of seven blasts rocked different areas of Baghdad, killing 26 and injuring 65. Six of the explosions – some of which went off in packed public squares and markets – were caused by explosives-laden cars, the source added.
Meanwhile, another bombing that struck a funeral tent in Baqubah left at least 16 people dead and 18 injured, the source said.
The explosion was caused by an explosive device planted inside the tent, which targeted mourners coming to pay their respects to a recently deceased tribal elder in the city's Buhriz district.
No group has claimed responsibility for Wednesday's attacks.
Although most such attacks go unclaimed, Iraqi authorities usually point the finger at Al-Qaeda-linked militants.Last Mod: 15 Ocak 2014, 14:23
