Five people were killed and eight others injured when a car bomb was detonated Sunday in the east of Baghdad province, a security official said.
The official added that the explosion targeted a local market in Sadr City. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of 11:20am GMT.
This is the second deadly bomb attack in Sadr within two days. On Friday, another booby-trapped car exploded in the city killing three and injuring ten, a security source told Anadolu Agency.
Iraq has been the scene of rising violence over the past months with car bombings and assassinations killing hundreds of people.
According to the Interior Ministry, at least 1,000 Iraqis were killed and 1,800 injured in different attacks in January alone.
