Under heavy security Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki paid a surprise visit to the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk in the early morning hours on Tuesday.

Maliki arrived unexpectedly in Kirkuk in a private jet and went directly to the governor’s building where the local governor of Kirkuk, Omer Kerim, gave Maliki a tour of the building.
