Masoud Barzani has given instruction for his party to prepare for an independence vote.

Kurdistan Democratic Party Leader Massoud Barzani gathered members and a KDP official, Aras Haso Mirhan, announced talks to begin with other regional parties for a referendum on the independence vote.

In Washington for a serious of closed door sessions in May earlier this year, Barzani had said that Kurds will hold a referendum on independence from Iraq but said that "I cannot say if it will be in the next year, or when, but certainly the independent Kurdistan is coming,”
