Kurdish Regional Government's (KRG) President Massoud Barzani warned Peshmerga forces, who are fighting against the so-called 'Islamic State' (IS), that everyone who neglects their position 'will be punished.'

''Everyone who neglects [his or her] position and are at fault with losing Sinjar will be punished,'' he said.

Armed men fighting for the group, IS, stormed the northern Iraqi town of Sinjar in early August, killing at least several hundreds of Yazidis, an ethnic community based primarily in northern Iraq.

According to a statement by the KRG official website, Barzani visited Peshmerga forces on the eastern and western side of the Tigris River on Thursday and met with minority groups victimized as a result of IS assault.

Barzani drew attention to IS attacks in Iraq and Syria, saying: ''disaster has happened to the people of Kurdistan; we all get our share of this disaster.''

''Either we will live in our land freely, or we will die together,'' Barzani said.
