Iraq nabs senior ISIL terrorist near Mosul

Iraqi forces on Monday captured a senior ISIL terrorist near Mosul in northern Iraq, according to a local police officer.

The terrorist, identified as Dawoud Mohamed Saleh, was arrested during a raid on a house in al-Shura island south of Mosul, Capt. Shakir al-Wandi said.

He said the terrorist was responsible for taking by force houses of security members in southern Mosul.

“His hands are stained with the blood of civilians and security members,” al-Wandi said.

No injuries were reported among security forces during the raid.

Meanwhile, Army Col. Ahmad al-Jabouri said 30 people were detained by security forces southwest of Mosul for suspected links with the ISIL terrorist group.

Last December, officials in Baghdad had declared that ISIL's military presence in Iraq had been all but dismantled. However, it appears that the notorious terrorist group still maintains a network of "sleeper cells" in several parts of the country.
