Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki calls on Iraq's neighboring countries to cooperate to overcome security issues, political and economic problems in the region.

Iraq wishes to have good relations with its neighboring countries particularly Turkey, said Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Tuesday.

Maliki received Volkan Bozkir, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Parliament and his delegation in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. 

Political developments in the region and Syrian conflict were discussed, said a statement released from Maliki's office. 

Maliki stressed that bilateral relations need to be strengthened and called on Iraq's neighboring countries to cooperate to overcome security issues, political and economic problems. 

Meanwhile Bozkir said Turkey respected Iraqi people's will and territorial integrity. 

Security in Iraq is very important for peace in the region, he said. 

Bozkir also met with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama en-Nuceyfi. 

Nuceyfi emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the countries.
