The Kurdistan Democratic Party, led by Masoud Barzani, has won the April 30 governorate elections in the Kurdistan Regional Government in northern Iraq, having garnered 38 percent of the votes.
According to the final results announced Thursday by the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission, the party was followed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, which received 24 percent of the votes while Gorran, led by Nawshirwan Mustafa, came in third with 23 percent.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party also won the governor posts in elections in the cities of Erbil and Dohuk, garnering 49 and 73 percent of the votes, respectively, while Gorran has won the governor post in the city of Sulaymaniyah with 40 percent of the vote there.
Serbest Mustafa, chairman of the electoral commission, has said that over 2 million people voted in the governorate elections held on the same day as the April 30 general elections in Iraq's Kurdish north.Last Mod: 23 Mayıs 2014, 09:30
