Ali Mahmood, spokesperson of Esil al-Nujayfi, governor of Iraq's northern province of Mosul, was shot dead Tuesday in an armed assault, said security sources.
He was ambushed by unidentified gunmen outside his home and died at the scene of the incident.
The spokesperson was reported to be a journalist as well.
Meanwhile, three soldiers and 2 police officers were killed, and 4 others wounded in several bomb attacks targeting security forces in Mosul, security sources said.
Two patrolling police officers were killed, and 3 others wounded when a roadside bomb was detonated in the town of Shura, south of Mosul.
In a separate blast, three soldiers in a patrol vehicle were killed when multiple roadside bombs went off in the district of al-Hadr, southwest of Mosul.
Police chief in al-Kayyara, Major Ahmed Mutyr, was wounded in another bomb attack targeting his convoy.
