The raid targeted a ISIL position where extremists were preparing bombs and mortar shells in southern Mosul, Major Dreid Khudeir al-Saadouni said.
“Ten militants were killed in the strike, which also caused a chain of explosions that killed 14 civilians nearby,” he said.
U.S.-led coalition warplanes have been carrying out airstrikes against ISIL positions in Mosul in support of an ongoing Iraqi offensive aimed to retake the northern city from the extremist group.
Once Iraq’s second largest city in terms of population, Mosul was overrun by ISIL -- along with large parts of the country’s northern and western regions -- in mid-2014.
