Following Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani’s announcement that oil could start flowing from Iraqi Kurdistan to Turkey "before Christmas", State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki Wednesday said that the US remains committed to Baghdad’s authority over oil exports.

"We don't support oil exports from any part of Iraq without approval of the Iraqi federal government. We continue to urge the federal government of Iraq and Kurdistan Regional Government to reach a constitutional solution, and that has consistently been our position and it also has not changed," she said.

Barzani made the announcement while speaking to the press in Turkey Tuesday. He met with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan Wednesday. During the meeting, the two premiers discussed energy cooperation between Erbil and Ankara.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is scheduled to visit Turkey next month.
