The mosque and Islamic center which has been constructed in Rijeka is the first place of worship with a minaret to be constructed on Croatia’s Adriatic coasts since the Ottoman period.

The mosque and Islamic center, whose construction was brought up in 1984 by the Croatian Islamic Union but could not be started until 3 years ago, was completed a short time ago with financial support from Qatar.

The opening of the mosque and Islamic Center, which will serve the approximately 10 thousand Muslims in Rijeka and Muslim living in nearby cities, held with a well-attended ceremony.

In addition to Croatia, senior officials from Bosnia and Herzegovina and other regional countries, as well as Bosnians living in the area, participated in the event.

The complex of the Islamic Center, which cost 10 million euros, includes a conference room, dining room, guest house, classrooms for young people, cafeteria, basketball and soccer courts, a parking lot and multi-purpose halls.
