An Egyptian preacher was deported from Kuwait on Sunday for claiming during a Friday sermon at one of emirate's mosques that Egypt's recent presidential vote was "rigged."

"The preacher left to Doha on Sunday and he is expected to head from there to Sudan," a Kuwaiti security source told Anadolu Agency.

The source added that the preacher's wife and children returned to Cairo, while his elder son was allowed to stay in Kuwait to complete his exams.

Walid al-Shuaib, Kuwaiti Religious Endowments Ministry Undersecretary for mosque affairs, said in press statements Friday that an Egyptian preacher had been suspended and would be deported for violating mosque rules.

He added that Sayed Ibrahim Abu Halima talked about Egypt's recent presidential vote in his Friday sermon.

Kuwait mosque preachers are not allowed to discuss politics in their sermons.

They must abide by the content of sermons prepared beforehand by the Religious Endowments Ministry.

Curtains fell on Egypt's presidential election on Wednesday, with finial, though unofficial, results indicating that former army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi had secured landslide victory.
