Trinidad and Tobago moves Eid-ul-Fitr holiday

World Bulletin/News Desk

Trinidad and Tobago's Minister of Multiculturalism has announced that Thursday, September 1, 2011, had been declared a non-working public holiday in observance of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr (End of Ramadan).

The aforementioned announced date is quite late for this part of the Western Hemisphere, with even Asian countries having declared the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr on August 30 or 31st.

The reason for the lateness of the announced date might be due to the fact that August 31 is already an annual public holiday for Trinidad and Tobago's Independence Day, causing the Government to move the Eid public holiday by one day, as was done in Malaysia before.
