The Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) has offered 170 Udhiyah (animals for sacrifice) in donation from the Turkish people to the poor families in the Gaza Strip.
The IHH "sacrificed 170 cows worth $375,700 in the second day of Eid al-Adha as a donation from the Turkish people to the strip's poor," IHH director in Gaza Muhammad Kaya told Anadolu Agency.
The beef would be delivered to 17,000 poor families in the enclave, he said.
The gesture aims to "boost friendship and brotherhood ties between the Palestinian and Turkish people and to ease the burdens of the Gazans reeling under the Israeli blockade," he added.
The Gaza Strip – home to some 1.7 million inhabitants – has suffered under a crippling Israeli blockade since 2007 when Hamas seized control of the coastal strip and routed forces loyal to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.Last Mod: 17 Ekim 2013, 16:26
