A new report by the Southern Law Poverty Center has seen a dramatic spike in anti-Muslim hate groups in the US. The election of President Trump, considered to be a racist, misogynist and xenophobe into the most powerful political office in the world along with a range of senior staff that has a wide range of anti-Muslim ideologies has sped up the normalisation of anti-Muslim rhetoric acrosss the country.

Releasing its latest findings, the SPLC has found a high number of hate groups aimed at destroying the peace that many Americans have come to know. According to the SPLI, his brash, vilifying campaign that has labelled Mexicans as rapists and drug peddlers, and encouragement of violence on blacks has seen President Trump "unleash right-wing hate in this country in a way that is difficult to remember,".

The reaction to Trump’s victory by the radical right was beyond ecstatic. “Our Glorious Leader has ascended to God Emperor,” wrote Andrew Anglin, who runs the neo-Nazi Daily Stormer website. “Make no mistake about it: we did this. If it were not for us, it wouldn’t have been possible.” Jared Taylor, a white nationalist who edits a racist journal, said that “overwhelmingly white Americans” had shown they were not “obedient zombies” by choosing to vote “for America as a distinct nation with a distinct people who deserve a government devoted to that people.”

As national security adviser, he selected retired Gen. Mike Flynn, who has described Islam as a “malignant cancer” and tweeted that “[f]ear of Muslims is RATIONAL.” His designated CIA director was U.S. Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.), who is close to some of the country’s most rabid anti-Muslim extremists.

In addition to this appointment was his choice for chief strategic advier, Steven Bannon. Bannon is  the former head of Breitbart News, a far-right media outlet known for promoting the so-called alt-right, in its essence, a recent rebranding of white supremacy for public relations purposes, one the has stripped away the KKK robes and symbolsim to be clothed as a more “intellectual” approach. With Bannon’s appointment, white nationalists have finally the man they want in the White House.

As for the changes, the most alarming is the massive leap in anti-Muslim hate groups from 34 in 2015 to 101 last year, which is  a 197% increase. Not only that, the news report found there are now more than 900 active hate groups across the US, only just slightly lower than the all-time high count of 1,018 hate groups in 2011.

Mark Potok, author of the article, also said that 

“They were so turned on by what was happening in the pro-Trump world that they entered that world, rather than holding their own rallies,” Potok said.

“We think Trump has co-opted many of the issues of the radical right,” he said. “We think that has prevented or at least slowed the growth of these groups.”

Asked for comment on the report, Andrew Anglin, the founder of the neo-Nazi Daily Stormer site, wrote: “It’s just more of the same goofy gibberish from the Jews.”
