Recently-elected Syrian National Coalition (SNC) chief Ahmad Assi Jarba is due to arrive in Egypt on Sunday as part of a tour of the Arab region – his first since being elected opposition leader.

Jarba is due to hold talks with newly-appointed Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmi, along with other senior Egyptian officials, to discuss the latest developments of the Syria crisis.

Earlier Saturday, Fahmi said Egypt would "re-examine" the June decision by ousted president Mohamed Morsi to sever diplomatic ties with Syria's Bashar al-Assad regime.

He said that Egypt still believed that a political solution was key to ending the ongoing crisis in the violence-torn country, stressing that there was no intention in Egypt to send fighters to Syria to wage "jihad" against al-Assad forces.

On June 15, Morsi announced the severing of Egypt's diplomatic ties with Damascus, while voicing support for a proposed no-fly zone over Syria. Shortly afterward, Egypt closed its embassy in the Syrian capital and shut down Syria's mission in Cairo.
