Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan formally announced Istanbul's bid to host the 2020 Olympics. Istanbul's rivals are Rome, Tokyo and Madrid. Earlier, Istanbul attempted to host the Games for four times. "As a symbol of peace, Istanbul deserves this opportunity," Erdogan said.
"I AM PLANNING TO TRAVEL TO SOMALIA"
Kemal Kilicdaroglu, leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP) said that he was planning to travel to Somalia on the first day of the Ramadan Feast after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that he would travel to Somalia together with his wife and daughter. Kilicdaroglu said that talks were under way with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Turkish Red Crescent for the visit.

Ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party inspired the political parties in Egypt. Khalid al-Zafarani said that he would form a political party with the same name and program of Turkey's AK Party.
FOOD FOR 8 THOUSAND SOMALI PEOPLE
Turkey has given a helping hand to the camps in the capital city of Somalia where tens of thousands of people took shelter. Turkish charity organization (Kimse Yok Mu) has been distributing food to Somali people in Hodan and Wardighley camps since the beginning of Muslim people's holy month of Ramadan.
TURKEY CANDIDATE TO HOST 2020 OLYMPIC GAMES
Turkey officially bade to host the 2020 Olympic Games. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a press conference on Saturday and said that Turkey was a candidate to host 2020 Olympic Games. Turkey and Turkish people attached a great importance to the games, he said. "Our facilities are ready for the Olympic Games," Erdogan said.
CAGLAYAN PROCEEDS TO USA
Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan proceeded to the United States from South Korea where he held formal talks. Accompanied by representatives of informatics and defense industry as well as businessmen, Economy Minister Caglayan's visit to Seattle and San Francisco is expected to last till August 19. He is expected to hold talks on increasing Turkey's share in the U.S. market, improvement of economic and commercial relations between Turkey and the United States, investment opportunities in Turkey and initiatives between businessmen of the two countries. The Turkish economy minister will meet CEOs from companies in the U.S. information technology sector and visit the Silicon Valley.
TURKEY BIDS TO HOST OLYMPIC GAMES
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Saturday that Turkey bade to host 2020 Olympic Games. Erdogan said, "we feel great excitement. We believe that we will reach our goal this time." The International Olympic Committee has begun the selection process for the host city. Bids are due by September 1, 2011. The host city will be elected in Buenos Aires on September 7, 2013 at the 125th IOC Session.
KILICDAROGLU TO VISIT SOMALIA
The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu will pay a visit to Somalia suffering from famine and drought. CHP Adana deputy Faruk Logoglu said that they were working on the visit to Somalia. "I talked to ambassadors there. After we launched initiatives under the Foreign Ministry, Prime Minister announced that he would visit Somalia," Logoglu said.
THREE TROOPS KILLED IN SIRNAK
PKK terrorists opened fire on a group of security forces near Ayvalik village in Bestussebap town of the southeastern province of Sirnak with long-range weapons. Clash erupted between PKK terrorists and security forces. Three troops including a captain were killed in the clash while three others were injured. One of the injured is is life-threatening condition.
TERRORISTS KIDNAP TWO PEOPLE
Terrorists have kidnapped two people in Senyayla region in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir. A group of members of the PKK terrorist organization stopped a minibus and kidnapped 30-year-old sub-governor Kenan Erenoglu and 21-year-old Aykut Celik. Interior Minister Idris Naim Sahin and National Defense Minister Ismet Sahin came to the southeastern province of Van following the developments.
VELI GOCER RELEASED
Contractor Veli Gocer, who was sentenced to a prison term of 18 years and 9 months for causing the death of 195 people when the earthquake that took place on August 17, 1999, destroyed houses that he built in Cinarcik, was released on Saturday.
PKK KIDNAPS TWO PEOPLE
A group of PKK terrorists have kidnapped two people in southeastern Turkey. A group of members of PKK stopped a minibus in Senyayla region in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir and kidnapped Kenan Erenoglu, 30, and Aykut Celik, 21.

TURKEY SHOULD NOT INTERVENE IN ITS NEIGHBOR'S AFFAIRS
The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu said that Turkey should not intervene in internal affairs of its neighbor, stating that it should not make threatening and blackmailing statements. "Turkey should not assume such attitudes," Kilicdaroglu said. He also said that he would pay a visit to Somalia during the Feast of Ramadan.
THREE SOLDIERS MARTYRED
Three soldiers were martyred in southeastern province of Sirnak. PKK terrorists opened fire on a military vehicle carrying soldiers in Beytussebap town of Sirnak. Three soldiers died and three others were wounded in the clash. A large scale operation was launched in the region.
VELI GOCER RELEASED
Contractor Veli Gocer was earlier sentenced to a prison term of 19 years and 9 months for causing the death of 195 people when the earthquake that took place on August 17, 1999, destroyed houses that he built in Cinarcik. However after serving 7.5 years in prison he was released. Gocer was accused of causing the death of people because of his failure to take measures and to carry out proper work.
