PRESIDENT GUL ON NEW CONSTITUTION
President Abdullah Gul on his way to Strasbourg made clear statements on the new constitution. Gul said there was need for a new constitution. Gul said that a constitution which would carry Turkey to the next century was necessary for the country. Political parties should focus on a new constitution during the election period, he said.

YILMAZ: IF NECESSARY, WE MAY INCREASE INTEREST RATES
Central Bank Governor Durmus Yilmaz said that they could take new steps to prevent increase in inflation figure and shrink credit market. Yilmaz said that the bank could rise interest rates again, if necessary.

WE SHOULD PREPARE NEXT CENTURY'S CONSTITUTION
Replying to questions of reporters on the way to Strasbourg, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said Turkey needed a libertarian constitution that would only set out the basic principles and would not go into details. Noting that the new constitution should be prepared with the widest participation possible, Gul said the constitution should be capable to carry Turkey to the next century.

TURKEY TO LIFT VISAS WITH UKRAINE TOO
The context of the partnership Turkey has been establishing with the countries in its region is expanding. As part of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Ukraine, Turkish and Ukrainian authorities agreed to launch cooperation and lift visa procedures for each other's citizens. Nearly 600 businessmen accompanied Erdogan during his visit to Ukraine.

GERMAN CENSOR ON VALLEY
The display of the Turkish movie "Valley of Wolves Palestine", which was planned to be shown on Thursday in Germany, was stopped as the movies makes anti-Semitist propaganda. The display of the movie which would be on scene on the remembrance day for the victims of Holocaust was prevented. Meanwhile, Austria is getting prepared to make a similar decision. Germany, distributer of the movie, said that there was a conflict due to some defects.

Six agreements were signed during Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Ukraine where he was accompanied by four ministers and 600 businessmen. Ukrainian leader Yanukovych and Erdogan decided to lift visa as well as to establish High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between the two countries. Also, addressing the businessmen in Kiev, Erdogan warned that PKK terrorist organization and gangs could make provocation prior to the general elections in Turkey.

GERMANY BANS DISPLAY OF "VALLEY OF WOLVES PALESTINE"
Display of the Turkish movie "Valley of Wolves" was banned in Germany as it will be on scene on Jewish genocide victims remembrance day. German Movie Industry Self-regulatory Board did not allow the film to be displayed on January 27. Germans have been objecting the movie by claiming that it has anti-Semitist elements. The movie also displays Mavi Marmara raid where nine Turks were slaughtered.

Cold and snowy wave coming from Balkans covered Turkey. Temperatures dropped 8-10 degrees. The snow, which began in the northwestern provinces of Edirne and Kirklareli, became influential in Istanbul too in the evening. Also, people enjoyed the snow in the eastern province of Erzurum which began 24 hours before the Winter Universiade Games kick off.

SHE ASKS HOUSE ARREST FOR OCALAN
Aysel Tugluk, one of the lawyers of PKK terrorist organization's head Abdullah Ocalan, spoke to Vatan before she paid a visit to Imrali (prison where Ocalan has been kept), and she said, "Abdullah Ocalan is an important actor on Kurdish people and PKK. State is pursuing talks with Ocalan. It is not possible for Ocalan to make full contribution to the solution in current conditions. He has to know and be influential about the developments. Ocalan has to be in house arrest."

AK PARTY IS BLIND TO UNIDENTIFIED MURDERS
Justice and Development (AK) Party has been reluctant about unidentified murders since it became the ruling party. The party neither takes any individual steps on the issue, nor it wants to hear the opposition's call for investigation. AK Party has rejected Republican People's Party's (CHP) proposal for the establishment of an investigation commission for 5 times, while it has objected to a similar suggestion from Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) twice. CHP chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu said that unidentified murders should be examined, if there was democracy in Turkey.

WINTER GAMES ARE ABOUT TO BEGIN
All the preparations have been completed as hours are left for the opening of the 25th Winter Universiade Games to be hosted by Turkey for the first time. Nearly 3,000 sportsmen from 57 countries are expected to participate in the games to be held in Turkey's eastern Erzurum province which is located at a 2,000 meter height above sea level.

On board the plane en route to Strasbourg, President Abdullah Gul said that there was need for a new, short and liberal constitution. "We should prepare a constitution that will be valid for the next century," he said. Gul said that political parties should also focus on the new constitution during the election period.

SLOWDOWN IN TRADE WITH USA
Turkey has not determined names to be included in the business council that was established between Turkey and the United States. Jose Fernandez, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs, who visited Ankara said that the business council was the important part of the strategic frame between the two countries. Fernandez said that the United States hoped that names of organizations and unions to be included in the Turkish-American Business Council would be determined soon.

New Kyrgyz Prime Minister Almazbek Atanbayev spoke to Hurriyet in "Turkish", and he said, "Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit from Turkey to our country on February 1 and 2 will be a symbol for us. We have a high expectation from the visit. Turkey will become a world giant, and open our path too."

U.S. TALKS ABOUT TURK MD
Turkish MD Hakan Kaya's healing police officer Tony Lamanna, a cancer patient, is high on the agenda of Washington. Kaya said that he did not have to give account to anyone in the clinic he was working, and added, "after I kill the cancer with chemotherapy, I syringe healthy cells back which I stored beforehand."

Speaking about the new Constitution aboard the plane on his way to Strasbourg, President Abdullah Gul said that his preference was "a great consensus". He also did not hide that he had reservations about a presidency system.

ERDOGAN GIVES MESSAGE THAT ELECTORAL THRESHOLD NECESSARY
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered a speech in Ukrainian capital of Kiev and said, "some say that threshold should be lowered. But our country made great progress during the period of single party governments. Turkey did not achieve progress during the period of coalition governments." Premier Erdogan said that the great progress that has been caught by Turkey should not be spoiled.

Regarding Suheyl Batum's proposal that Mustafa Balbay and Tuncay Ozkan could be nominated as candidates from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) in the upcoming elections, CHP chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu said, "there is not such a thing." Batum said, "it was just a proposal. It was a symbolic step."

CRITICAL WARNING FROM ERDOGAN PRIOR TO ELECTIONS
Pointing out to Ergenekon and terrorist organization PKK, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the citizens to be aware of games. Erdogan said some circles tried to re-design national politics by provoking national sensitivities prior to elections. Commenting on the proposals to reduce the electoral threshold, Erdogan said, "We do not want to put our economy into any risks". Erdogan also said Turkey had always been on the rise during the ruling of a single party, adding that coalitions had always caused the country fall back.

NOONE IN EUROPE CAN LOOK AT EACH OTHER'S FACE
Turkish President Abdullah Gul addressed the plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg. Upon a question on the Armenian allegations regarding the incidents of 1915, Gul said, "If we try to live with history, none in Europe can look at each other's face".
