THEY PRETEND TO BE LIBERALS BUT LATER SIDESTEP
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticised the Republican People's Party (CHP) at his party's camp in Kizilcahamam.
"Those who see the right in themselves to restrict freedoms, saying that secularism is under threat; must see that they are against democracy. Secularism, is a guaranty for those who veil themselves because of their religious beliefs. Showing this as a threat is a far-fetched approach," said Erdogan.
Erdogan who reiterated his call to the CHP, said, "If your are honest about the headscarf issue, give a directive. I am giving a directive to our group chairmen here: Talk to the group chairmen of CHP and see if they received any directives. We shall share this with the public."
CHP OPENS ITS POLICIES TO CRITICISM
Leader of main opposition Kemal Kilicdaroglu and senior CHP officials, got together Saturday with scholars, representatives of the media, the business circles and civil organizations.
Expectations of the society from CHP and CHP's position regarding these problems and its solution strategies, were discussed during the meeting.

JUDGES AND PROSECUTORS GO TO BALLOT BOXES
Nearly 11,500 judges and prosecutors will cast votes today. Ten permanent and six reserve members will be selected to the Supreme Board of Judges & Prosecutors (HSYK).
ERDOGAN: REPUBLIC BELONGS TO 73 MILLION, NOT TO A SINGLE SEGMENT
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the opening remarks of his Justice & Development (AK) Party's meeting in Kizilcahamam town of Ankara. Erdogan said that Republic belonged to 73 million people in Turkey, not to a single segment of the public.
CALL FROM INTELLIGENTS TO KILICDAROGLU: ATTEND THE RECEPTION
Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu met with journalists, writers and representatives of non-governmental organizations yesterday. October 29 Republic Day reception which will take place at Cankaya Presidential Palace was high on the agenda of the meeting. Journalist Mehmet Ali Birand, who recalled the new attitude Kilicdaroglu assumed, said that not participating in the reception would cause a contradiction.

HE WHO CONSIDERS ATTEMPTING COUP IS CRAZY
Former Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit, said those who are considering coups in the 21st century should be treated in mental hospitals before trial. Buyukanit who said he did not sense any tendency for coups when he was chief of staff also commented on illegal phone tapping. He then made a joke saying: "No doubt, my phones have been tapped too, why should they spare me."

In his address to the 16th consultation and evaluation meeting of Justice and Development (AK) Party, Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the republic did not belong to any single group, but to all of the 73 million citizens. "Republic can be defended by embracing the public. Those who think they owned the Republic, gave the greatest harm to it," said Erdogan.

HUGE MARATHON WITH 100,000 PEOPLE
The 32nd Intercontinental Eurasia Marathon will be run in Istanbul today. Nearly 100,000 people including 8,000 foreigners will participate in the marathon which gives one million Turkish lira prize. The race will begin at 9:00 a.m. in Asian part of Bosphorus Bridge. Traffic will be stopped between 7:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
ASK INTELLIGENTS: HOW CAN WE DRAW VOTES
Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) held a search conference at Swisshotel all day long yesterday. Scientists, politicians and journalists were invited to the conference. CHP Chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu received views of guests about headscarf and Kurdish issue. After the conference, journalist Selahattin Onkibar said, "we discussed what can be done to earn votes of central right wing. CHP is questioning itself."

ERDOGAN: WOMEN WEARING HEADSCARF CAN ENTER EVERY PLACE
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave the message that headscarved women could enter every place including public places. "This shall be accepted like that," he added. Erdogan noted that secularism was an assurance for the women wearing headscarf too. Giving directives to his party's group acting chairmen to solve headscarf issue, Erdogan called on opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) to give directives too.

Turkish Sevilen Winery won three gold and two silver medals in Vienna Wine Competition which is considered as world's greatest official wine competition. Sevilen also took place among the top hundred producers.

Telecommunications Directorate, Turkey's legal tapping base, opened its doors to Radikal. The number of telephones, which are tapped legally, is 71,538. 35 percent of this is for legal aims, and 65 percent for intelligence. Telecommunications Directorate is actually a recording center, not tapping. Among recorded data, there are phone conversations, text messages and fax messages. On the contrary to popular thought, they don't make live tapping. The recorded data is sent to the institution which demands the tapping.
WOMEN RULE TUSIAD
A new page is opening in 40-year old Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD) due to rising number of women members and presidents of the association. TUSIAD was established by 12 businessmen in 1971. However, the word "businessmen" in TUSIAD will be a history. The new name of TUSIAD will be announced on its 40th foundation anniversary.

Former Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit commented on the phone tap records that recently surfaced. "No doubt, my phones have been tapped too, why should they spare me. But, seriously, no! I'm not informed about such a thing," said Buyukanit.
"Noone should dream about coups in the 21st century. Those who do, should not be shown tolerance. Indeed, if someone plans a coup, he should be first treated in a mental hospital before tried," said Buyukanit.
TURKISH TEAM FINISHES BEIJING-PARIS RALLY IN 2ND PLACE
Ahmet Sefik Ongun and Erdal Tokcan finished the Paris-Beijing Rally in second place with their Anadol A1. The Turkish team which was sponsored by Ulker will donate their prize to 250 students as scholarship.

With only hours left before the elections for Supreme Council of Judges and Prosecutors, SMSs telling certain candidates withdrew in favour of others started flying around. 6 candidates who reacted to the situation, wowed to carry the issue to courts.
Candidates Supreme Court Investigating Judge Teoman Gokce and Judge Ahmet Kaya who are said to be endorsed by the Ministry of Justice said in a joint statement: "We are strongly condemning this plot. We will make criminal complaints with the Supreme Board of Elections and judiciary authorities. We are confident that our colleagues will not fall for these cheap tricks."
President of the Adana Heavy Penal Court Huseyin Serter and Uskudar Public Prosecutor Celal Ayar also complained about the issue.
UNIVERSITIES DIVIDED OVER TURBAN
Following the remarks of Yusuf Ziya Ozcan, President of the Board of Higher Education, Gazi, Konya, Gumushane, Tunceli and Sakarya Universities are allowing female students wearing turban into classes while Hacettepe, Mugla, Amasya, Nevsehir, Nigde and Zonguldak Karaelmas Universities are sticking to the ban.

SUPPORT FROM GUL TO CHOICE OF OZIL
Speaking to German Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, President Abdullah Gul said that Turkish descent Mesut Ozil, who played for German national soccer team, should not be booed. Gul said, "if Mesut Ozil asked me, I would encourage him to play for German team."

U.S. State Secretary Hillary Clinton, who appeared at BBC channel, stressed that Turkey was an ally which had important relations with NATO. She noted that Turkey was becoming a greater global and regional presence. She added that Turkey was reaching other countries and trying to be influential alone.
