Turkish dailies on Wednesday covered the statements of the top US envoy Ricciardone, former Greek foreign minister's statements regarding the destruction of Ottoman mosques in Greece and Turkish premier's statements in regards to EU accession. Most of the Turkish dailies covered the statements of US Ambassador to Turkey Francis Ricciardone who said that the US Justice Department had the authority to pursue a legal case against the far-left terrorist organization DHKP/C that claimed responsibility for the suicide bomb attack on the US Embassy in Ankara. "Response with a lawsuit for the attack" headlined daily MILLIYET over Ricciardone's words who stressed that Turkish and American officials have been working together to develop the best evidence to present in court to go after the terrorist organization.
Furthermore, Turkish dailies covered Former Greek Foreign Minister Theodoros Pangalos's confession that Greece destroyed thousands of mosques that were built by the Ottomans. "Historical confession: We destroyed thousands of mosques" headlined daily YENI SAFAK over the statement of Pangalos. Pangalos warned that Greece could be punished by the European Council of Human Rights (ECHR) if it fails to meet the demands of the Muslims as they signed an international agreement to respect the needs of the recognized faiths according to the daily.
Most dailies covered the statements of Prime Minister and ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan in regards to the EU accession process of Turkey. "Our membership will be an antidote for racism" headlined daily SABAH referring to Erdogan's statements who said, "Economic crisis has taken control of Europe. Racism is giving danger signals in some countries in Europe. Turkey's EU accession will provide a vision, broaden the horizon and add tolerance in European countries."
