Turkish dailies covered on Friday PM Erdogan’s remarks on the headscarf wearing candidates in local elections, the duration of military service, the rumors circulating about his intentions to be candidate for presidency election in 2015.
Besides, dailies captioned the junta in Egypt to have planned the military coup in brainstorming meeting in December 2012.
Dailies also captioned the Turkish Education Minister’s remarks saying that they would have national exams in Kurdish language for the schools to teach in Kurdish within the scope of democratization package released on September 30.
Turkish dailies YENI SAFAK, STAR and HURRIYET quoted Erdogan’s remark on the headscarf wearing candidate in elections saying “We will have women candidates wearing headscarves in local elections." Daily STAR captioning Erdogan’s remarks wrote that Erdogan had said that even though he could not tell the number of the headscarf wearing women candidates, they have been measuring the tendencies for the issue. HURRİYET, on the other hand, wrote that Erdogan had said that AK Party provincial organizations would vote for the issue and report the results to the headquarters and then the candidates would be determined.
On the other hand, daily AKSAM, SABAH and MILLIYET highlighted Erdogan’s remarks on presidency. AKSAM captioned Erdogan’s remark saying “I have not decided about candidacy for presidency yet ,” while SABAH and MILLIYET quoted Erdogan saying “I will be candidate for presidency if my party ask me to be.”
Aforementioned dailies also touched upon Erdogan’s remarks on Turkey's missile defense system tender, which he said China seems to be in a "favorable position" to take, among rival bids by the US, Russia and a France-Italy consortium. On the other hand, they also wrote that Erdogan had said that, the period of the compulsory military service in Turkey, may be shortened to 12 months,
Daily STAR and YENI SAFAK captioned the coup in Egypt taking place on July 3 to have been planned in a brainstorming meeting in December 2012. YENI SAFAK wrote that there was a video showing General al-Sisi having a junta meeting in December 2012 to oust the elected president Morsi. On the other hand, daily STAR put the cap “Sisi: Media should be controlled.”
Another issue covered in the Turkish press was the remarks of Education Minister Avci saying that they would hold national exams in Kurdish language.
