TURKISH PRESS REVIEW ON SEPT 2

Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Friday issues the United Nations (UN) report on the deadly Mavi Marmara attack of Israel and Turkish national basketball team's victory against Great Britain at the European Basketball Championship in Lithuania.

Hurriyet daily wrote that the UN report on the Mavi Marmara attack of Israel was leaked to the press. Hurriyet quoted the report as saying "Israel's violence was excessive and irrational". The report, said Hurriyet, found Israel's blockade of Gaza as legitimate. Milliyet daily said that the UN report was leaked to the New York Times. Milliyet daily quoted the report as saying "Israel should express its sadness over the Mavi Marmara incident and pay compensation to the families of those killed and wounded by Israeli troops".

Commenting on the Turkish national basketball team's victory against Great Britain on Thursday, Cumhuriyet daily said that the national team was playing at full speed and they won their second game at the European Basketball Championship. Cumhuriyet said that the Turkish national basketball team was especially impressive with its strong defense. Turkiye daily said that the Turkish national basketball team won their first two games easily. "With their game, the Turkish squad gave the message that they were a strong candidate to be the champion in this year's European competition," Turkish daily also said. Turkey will play against hosts Lithuania on Friday.
