Two Al-Qaeda members were killed and six others wounded early Saturday in clashes with Yemen army forces in Seiyun in the southern Yemeni province of Hadhramaut, an Al-Qaeda source said.

Two more Al-Qaeda members have gone missing following the clashes, according to the source.

Rebels had attacked several military and security facilities in the city.

A military source had told Anadolu Agency earlier that the Yemeni army had foiled an attack on the military command and government buildings in Seiyun.

Last month, a senior military leader from Hadhramaut had been killed by unidentified rebels.

Yemen has been dogged by turmoil since pro-democracy protests in 2011 forced autocratic president Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down after 33 years in power.

In the three years since, authorities have struggled to restore law and order.
