Three Egyptian policemen were wounded on Sunday in an attack on their patrol by militants in Arish, the capital of the northeastern North Sinai province, a security source said.
The source added that the three policemen – two captains and a policeman of a lower rank – were patrolling an area in central Arish when militants opened fire on them.
He said the three injured policemen were taken to hospital in a stable condition.
North Sinai is the site of an Egyptian crackdown on militancy that has been on the rise since the ouster of elected president Mohamed Morsi by the army last year.
The province has seen a marked surge in attacks on police and army sites, which left scores of policemen and army personnel dead.
