The 34th Gulf Cooperation Council Summit, held for further economic integration, has begun on Tuesday in Kuwait, amidst key regional developments such as Syria crisis and Iran's nuclear deal in the region.

Hosted by Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, leaders of six Arab Gulf countries attended the two-day summit.

Delivering the opening speech of the summit, the Kuwaiti emir expressed optimism over Iran 's nuclear deal with the six world powers made in Geneva on November 24.

Iran agreed on limiting some of its nuclear activities in exchange for eased sanctions with the five permanent members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council plus Germany.

"We hope that these developments will conclude positively," the emir said.

He underlined the need for cooperation on regional developments such as Syrian conflict and the Iranian nuclear deal.

The emir also hailed efforts of the US on Israel-Palestine peace talks.

Syrian opposition leader Ahmad Jarba appealed for urgent help for the opposition and civilians as he took part in the opening session of the 34th Gulf Cooperation Council Summit.

"The Syrian people need you today to tell the whole world that the Syrian regime will have no future in the country," said Jarba.

Jarba said that the opposition had agreed to attend the Geneva 2 peace conference set for January 22 under conditions including that the Syrian regime plays no role in any transitional government.
