A Russian military delegation arrived in Cairo on Wednesday for a days-long visit to Egypt, a security source at Cairo International Airport said – the third such delegation to land in Cairo in less than two months.
Details of the 19-member delegation's agenda in Egypt remain unclear.
A high-level Russian military delegation led by Russian Air Force Commander Viktor Bondarev arrived in Cairo in February on an unannounced visit. This was followed by a second delegation headed up by a top Russian air defense commander, who held talks with Egyptian officials.
The recent flurry of Egypt-Russia diplomatic activity comes weeks after former Egyptian army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi visited Moscow, where he and Russian officials agreed to bolster bilateral military cooperation.
Last November, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov both visited Cairo. It was the first such visit by a Russian defense minister to the Egyptian capital since 1971.
