Moroccan authorities on Sunday detained six football fans, including one Egyptian national, for wearing shirts bearing the four-fingered Rabia sign at a friendly match in Casablanca between Egypt's Al-Ahly and Morocco's Mas Fez.

The five Moroccans have since been released, while the Egyptian remains in detention.

"I was sitting next to some Al-Ahly fans when police arrested me, along with an Egyptian wearing a shirt with the Rabaa sign on it," Abdel Samad Nuweidarat, one of the Moroccans, told Anadolu Agency.

He said police also arrested a family of four Moroccans found in possession of stickers bearing the words "Moroccans for Legitimacy," Rabaa shirts and images of Asmaa al-Beltagi, the slain daughter of Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed al-Beltagi.

Asmaa was one of hundreds of protesters killed this summer during the security forces violent eviction of a pro-democracy sit-in in Cairo's Rabaa al-Adawiya Square.

Nuweidarat said authorities had released him and the other Moroccans after several hours of questioning, while the Egyptian fan remained in police custody.

The Rabia sign has come to symbolize solidarity with those killed and wounded in the bloody dispersal.
