Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has been admitted to a hospital in Paris for medical checkups, the Presidency said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Presidency said that the Algerian leader was admitted to Val-de-Grace hospital on Monday for planned medical checkups and will stay there until Friday.

Bouteflika suffered a stroke in April and spent nearly three months in France receiving medical treatment before returning home in July.

Bouteflika was admitted to hospital two days before he signs a decree to invite Algerian voters to cast ballot in the April presidential election.

The veteran leader has yet to announce whether he will run for a fourth term in the April election.
