The National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy, a coalition against the military coup in Egypt, has called for mass protests nationwide on Monday and Tuesday.

"We urge the Egyptian people to join mass protests against the coup and Zionism," the alliance said in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Anadolu Agency, in reference to the military ouster of Morsi and an air raid that killed four members of armed groups in Sinai on Friday.

There have been contradicting reports about the strike, with armed groups and some local witnesses blaming it on Israel despite the Egyptian army's denial of such reports.

The Alliance said demonstrations would be organized Monday and Tuesday in provinces nationwide in addition to a mass march starting from Ramses Square in downtown Cairo.

The statement did not specify the final destination of the Ramses march.

"The Alliance has not received any invitation to discuss any proposals, but we would reaffirm our position that parties that staged, supported or blessed the bloody military coup and the ensuing massacres near the Republican Guards complex, Rabaa al-Adawiya and other places across the country are not welcomed or perceived as an honest, neutral broker."

The statement reiterated the Alliance's position that the return of Morsi, Egypt's first democratically elected president, should be the basis for any political settlement.
