Preparatory meetings for the Arab Summit, which will be held in Kuwait on March 25-26, will start here on Thursday, well-informed sources said on Wednesday.
Members of the Economic and Social Council of the summit will meet Thursday to prepare for the two-day summit, the sources said.
According to the sources, the council will hold a meeting at the ministerial level on Saturday and that Arab foreign ministers will hold two preparatory meetings on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Arab League Deputy Secretary-General Ahmed bin Heli arrived in Kuwait on Wednesday, leading a league delegation to prepare for the summit.
Omani Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs Yousef bin Alawi said earlier that Syria is expected to feature high in the discussions of the Arab leaders attending the summit.
"The summit will also discuss a wide range of other political, economic and security issues," Bin Alawi told the official Omani news agency last Monday.
He said other issues on the agenda will include the situation in Lebanon, Libya, Yemen as well as Middle East peacemaking.
He denied media reports that the summit will discuss a recent political standoff between Gulf countries Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, on one hand, and Qatar, on the other.
The first three countries had recently recalled their ambassadors from Doha in protest against what they described in a joint statement as Qatar's interference in their affairs.Last Mod: 20 Mart 2014, 09:50
