Several anti-coup groups in Egypt denounced on Thursday the arrest of a Coptic activist who founded a Coptic group against the military overthrow of president Mohamed Morsi.
The anti-coup Journalists Against Coup slammed Rami Jan's arrest saying he is being detained without charges.
The group called for Jan's immediate release, attributing his arrest to "his success in establishing Christians Against Coup group and the joining of many free Egyptian Copts to the group."
The ultra-conservative Gamaa Islamiya, which demands Morsi's reinstatement, also slammed Jan's arrest, saying it reveals the "ugly face" of the military-backed authorities.
Earlier Thursday, sources said that security forces detained Jan, but the Interior Ministry has not yet confirmed the arrest.Last Mod: 29 Kasım 2013, 10:23
