The Syrian National Coaliton (SNC) for the Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces claimed on Tuesday that the Assad regime used chemical weapons in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

"Bashar al- Assad's forces used chemical weapons in Duma, al-Uteybe, Al-Biharia and Harasta areas in the capital, Damascus," said the SNC in a written statement. "The International community must take action to prevent the use of chemical weapons."

Thousands of people were the target of shells in Eastern Guta, Damascus which is surrounded by the Assad regime forces and the Hezbollah militants, said the statement.

"The primary duty of the Free Syrian Army and the SNC is to protect civilians against barbarian military operations despite the lack of ammunition," the statement also said.
