United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim made a call for "immediate and generous support" to Syrian refugees on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference at the headquarters of UN, Ban and Kim stated UN and WB were closely following the developments regarding the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey.
Attending the meeting via video conference from Washington, Kim said that the number of refugees in Lebanon has reached more than 800,000, and added, "it is expected that this number will reach one million by the end of this year."
Kim stressed that the situation of Syrian refugees in Lebanon was not sustainable, and it was not possible for the Lebanese government to carry this heavy burden.
"It does not create only an economic burden, but it creates many social and even political problems," said Kim over the Syrian refugee issue in Lebanon.
