A homemade bomb was discovered on Tuesday outside a local church in western Cairo, according to security sources.
Bomb disposal squads were immediately deployed to the Church of the Virgin Mary in 6th of October City to defuse the charge as security forces cordoned off the area, the sources said.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for planting the bomb near the church, the scene of an attack in January that had claimed the life of one policeman.
An upsurge of attacks against Egyptian army and police sites has left dozens of security personnel dead and injured over the past several months.
Egypt has been in a state of turmoil since the military ousted Mohamed Morsi, Egypt's first democratically elected president, on July 3 following mass protests against his one-year presidency.
