Two people were killed and two others injured when an explosive charge went off near a police station in Egypt's coastal city of Alexandria in the early hours of Tuesday, a security source said.

"The bombing took place only a few meters from Al-Raml police station in Abu Suleiman district, killing two people and injuring two others, one of which had his leg cut off," the source told The Anadolu Agency on the condition of anonymity.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Egypt has been dogged by turmoil since the military ousted elected President Mohamed Morsi in mid-2013 following massive protests against his rule.

Egyptian authorities often blame the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, the group from which Morsi hails, for attacks targeting security forces in recent months.

The Brotherhood denies the accusations and says it is committed to peaceful activism.
