Lakhdar Brahimi, special UN and Arab League envoy to Syria said Syrian government and opposition groups from the country will take part in a planned peace conference in Switzerland, dubbed as Geneva II, with no pre-conditions but the date of the conference was still to be announced.
Brahimi met in Beirut with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and at a following press conference he talked about his earlier meeting with Syrian officials.
Brahimi said works to include National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces into Geneva II continued but inviting self-declared Islamic State in Iraq and Damascus, which continues armed struggle against Syrian government to the conference was out of question.
A written statement meanwhile by Mikati’s office said Lebanon supported the Geneva II but it will continue to stay out of Syrian affairs.Last Mod: 02 Kasım 2013, 09:17
